Preparing for Baby's Arrival: The Basics Every New Mom Needs to Know

Babies are such a joy, but they sure do come with a lot of work! If this is your first time being a mom, you may be wondering what you need to do to prepare.

1.) Choose an MFM doctor you are comfortable with 

The first step is to find an MFM doctor (Maternal-Fetal Medicine) that you are comfortable with. You will be spending a lot of time with this doctor, so it’s important to choose someone who makes you feel at ease.

2.)  Use comfortable clothing for your newborn

New moms often dress their newborns in complicated or very warm clothing, which can make them feel anxious. Your little one will depend on being comfortable, so stick to simple but comfortable clothing!

3.) Know your baby’s first check-up

Make sure to ask about your baby’s first checkup before you leave the hospital, especially if they are premature.

Some babies also go home with a special monitor for checking breathing and heart rate as well as infant cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

4.) Ask your healthcare provider on how to go about with newborn care

Do you have all of your questions answered before leaving the hospital? Make sure that anything about caring for newborns, such as bathing, breastfeeding, or burping.

5.) Newborns are prone to get sick easily

Even minor conditions can sometimes change quickly and without warning, so it is important for you to identify unusualities with your newborn’s patterns.
